It is well with my soul.
My life journey took me again to Honduras; This time to Teupasenti. It is a rural community characterized by a predominantly agricultural way of life. Most residents work in coffee growing and cattle raising. Typical houses are made of adobe and access to basic healthcare and financial services can be limited, with a need for improvements to water systems and public health being a common concern in the community.
The joy I feel for being allowed to serve in this capacity in Central America is overwhelming. I have been blessed with a gift that was meant for me to share, and I choose to do that by serving here in America and going on mission trips. My time in Honduras allowed me to minister to the people by providing healthcare. Most of the children I saw had never received health care, had never been to a hospital or clinic. I shared my gift with them by making sure they were healthy; by providing the medications they needed, and by praying for and with them. They in turn blessed me with their humble spirits, their joy in the little things, and their overwhelming faith in God.
For five days we were on the road by 6:30 am and traveled 2 hours to our makeshift clinic which we set up in a church. Surprisingly to us, it rained every day, which is very unusual, and seldom happens. The rainy season is June through October. The roads were very slippery and at one point we had to leave our van and walk through muddy, slippery grounds to get to our place of service. If the van slipped to the left or right, we would have been over the mountainside! Once there, everyone was happy and ready to begin. The lines were long with people waiting patiently to receive health care. Some came just wanting to see us. We supplied medical services to adults, children, and women with women's health needs. We also had dental services. We saw over 1200 people.
It was an amazing trip as always and I look forward to doing it again for as long as the Lord allows. He will continue to direct my path.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not to your own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your path.” Proverbs 3:5-6
